On 18th October, Green Light International Trust (GLIT) made a significant impact in Kwekwe by distributing over 28 mobility devices, including wheelchairs, to marginalized individuals with disabilities. This initiative is part of GLIT’s ongoing mission to empower persons with disabilities, restore independence, and support their rehabilitation.
“Every individual deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling life, regardless of their abilities,” said GLIT Founder and CEO, Tawanda Makwiramiti.
For many recipients, the mobility devices represent freedom, independence, and a renewed sense of belonging:
- Richard Phiri (36): “Receiving this wheelchair has been a game-changer. I can now move around with ease and take part in activities I previously struggled with.”
- Shingirai Chiwara: “This wheelchair gave me my independence back. I can go wherever I want, whenever I want, without relying on others.”
- Chipo Chakwira: “These mobility devices allow us to participate more in daily life. Our caregivers can now focus on other responsibilities.”

In addition to mobility aids, GLIT also held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 20-hectare Health Hub, which will provide specialized rehabilitation services for children with severe disabilities and victims of drug and substance abuse. This hub aims to deliver care, support, and hope to those who need it most.
From wheelchairs to healthcare initiatives, GLIT continues to create inclusive futures where no one in Zimbabwe is left behind.
