Strengthening Our Fight Against Drug and Substance Abuse!

Yesterday September 10, 2024, Green Light International Trust (GLIT) hosted its 3rd Stakeholders Meeting at our offices in Harare. The meeting brought together key players dedicated to combating drug and substance abuse in Zimbabwe. We were honored to have representatives from various sectors, including the government, universities, mental health advocates, and community leaders present. 🙌

The meeting discussed the upcoming launch of our 5-year program, Recreational Economic Growth and Empowerment Against Drugs and Substance Abuse(REGEADSA), with an inaugural Drug and Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign March scheduled for September 28th. This march will mark the beginning of our dedicated efforts to combat the growing issue of drug and substance abuse in our communities through awareness, education, and empowerment. Key highlights from the meeting were:

  • Collaboration and Support: We are reaching out to different institutions, and community groups to join us in this cause. 💌
  • Community Mobilization: The City of Harare has committed to mobilizing participants from various community centers, and we are exploring ways to include tertiary institutions and schools to lead the march. There is a need to contact players in the transport sector to assist with transporting these students and volunteers to and from the event. 🏃‍♂️
  • Music and Awareness: We plan to bring vibrant energy to the event with bands, artists and, if the budget allows, drum majorettes to keep spirits high. 🎶🥁
  • Engaging Authorities: We are working closely with the National Committee on Drugs and Substance Abuse and other key government offices to ensure all necessary approvals and support are in place. ✅

This is more than a march; it’s a movement to protect our communities and empower our youth against the scourge of drugs. Let’s make this a turning point for Zimbabwe! Let’s safeguard the future generations.

📢 We Need Your Support!
